The Black Woman Is God 2025:United States, God Dam!!

Nina Simone’s song Mississippi Goddam condemned systemic racism, violence, and the injustices faced by Black people in the South and across the country produced the title and theme of The Black Woman Is God 2025: United States, God Damn!

It is an artist’s duty to reflect the times. In that spirit, this year’s exhibition calls on artists to transform pain into purpose and courage into creation. These are times that demand fearlessness. Through your work, we ask you to mirror resistance—to despair, to racism, and to silence. The artist must be the voice of the people.

How does the artist present God as a Black woman who embodies resistance? What do Black women—past and present—look like as reflections of the struggles, strength, and divinity of the people?
